Hi, it's just me.

Dragonfly at Wokefield Common

Went to Wokefield Common today, tried to get a picture of a Broad-bodied Chaser but wasn’t successful as they were constantly on the move and too fast. So instead I took a few pictures of what I believe to be Common Darters.

Garbage – Girls Talk feat. Brody Dalle

Some nice noise to wake you up this morning, a nice Scotland and Australia collaboration (with some American help)

The Bennie Railplane of Milngavie near Glasgow, Scotland

The things you find when browsing the interweb on a Sunday morning. Via a post on vowe dot net about the Google Arts & Culture app I found the Google Arts & Culture site, where in turn I came across this picture of a Railplane trial line near Glasgow. I was intrigued.

A quick search helped me to find out this was the Bennie Railplane. It of course reminds a bit of the famous Wuppertal Schwebebahn. While sadly it wasn’t a success and almost nothing physical remains of it today there are at least three videos of it in action, first from the National Library of Scotland:

Second a short video on British Pathé:

Third a longer documentary also on British Pathé:

A few links to further information:

Certainly a very interesting invention, must have looked very futuristic back in the 1930s. Well, it wasn’t meant to be.

Rabbit on the watch

For some reason the birds, butterflies and dragonflies weren’t very cooperative today, so I didn’t get any good pictures. The only nice pictures I managed to take were of a rabbit standing on its hind legs watching the human with the big camera:

Steam Locomotive 46115 Scots Guardsman passing Aldermaston Station

A sunnier than expected July morning and a steam train passing Aldermaston Station, a nice combination. Here are a few pictures I managed to take, including a bonus picture of a trainspotting squirrel which entertained us while we were waiting for the train:

The locomotive is the LMS Royal Scot Class 6115 Scots Guardsman, passing at a fairly low speed after taking on water at Theale.
